I believe that how vulnerable groups are treated in a society is reflective of where the culture is. Especially at risk are animals, children and the elderly, among others. The only choice they have is to put their trust into the hands that care for them.
It distresses me very much when that trust is betrayed. I have a love and passion especially for animals and the elderly. Being able to combine this passion with my love of art is very fulfilling. Ultimately, if my art facilitates increased acknowledgement of and respect for these susceptible groups, and brings joy to a someone, I will be accomplishing what I set out to do.
I started out in graphic design, where I work for various advertising agencies and studios for 10 years. I then transitioned into homeschooling my three children and became a full-time caretaker for my parents for 20 years.
After returning to school, and getting my undergrad degree, my love for the elderly manifested in my role as Enrichment Director at an adult day center and two other long-term facilities. I have done independent and volunteer work within several nursing homes across Western New York, as well as continued my training as a dementia specialist.
Throughout all of my transitions, I have continued to rescue dogs and cats from local organizations and try to volunteer when time permits.
I am now embarking on a Master’s program which will yield a degree in dementia through the UK.
Recently, I have returned to my love of art and enjoy gifting friends and family with portraits of their elderly loved ones and beloved pets. I try very hard to capture their essence. Gratefully, word has gotten around and I now accept commissions for a growing clientele.
I am thrilled to be able to combine my love of art, animals and the elderly into a business that helps to bring joy and preserve precious memories.
